  • What is Precision Metal Laser Cutter?

The precision laser cutting machine is among as precision laser processing equipment. It works by utilizing the laser to irritate and dramatically heat materials to melt and vaporize. Then, molten substances are blown away by a jet of gases, forming a narrow joint, which is almost as wide as the focused laser beam.

  • How does Precision Laser Cutting Machine Work?

The precision laser cutter CNC uses a high-power laser beam to heat the material to thousands to tens of thousands of degrees celsius shortly to melt and vaporize it and high-pressure gases are utilized to blow away those molten and vaporized substances from the cutting joint to complete cutting. A small amount of heat is transferred to other areas of the material cut due to the concentrated energy of the laser beam, resulting in small or no deformation. Materials with complex shapes can be cut very precisely with the laser and no subsequent processing is needed.

  • Why Choose Precision Laser Cutter for Metal Cutting?

    • Narrow joint

The laser beam converges into a very small spot to reach a very high power density on the focus position to heat the material and vaporize it to form a hole. As the beam moves linearly relative to the material, the holes are continuously formed into a very narrow cutting joint.

    • Smooth cutting surface

Processing by the precision laser cutting machine is burr-free and has low roughness of the cutting surface.

    • Premium cutting quality

The precision laser cutter CNC is non-contact cutting. The cutting edge is hardly affected by heat and basically, no thermal deformation occurs. In addition, uneven edges can be avoided during material blanking and no reprocess to the cutting joint is needed.

    • No damage to the workpiece

The cutting head of the precision laser cutting machine does not contact the surface of the material, ensuring no scratches on the workpiece.

    • Not affected by the hardness of the material

Various materials with different hardness can be cut by the precision laser cutter CNC without deformation and with high precision.

    • Not affected by the shape of the workpiece

The flexibility of the precision laser cutting machine is helpful to process any graphics and special-shaped materials.

    • Dies saving

No dies and maintenance of dies are needed in the processing of the precision laser cutter CNC, saving time to replace dies and processing costs. It is especially suitable for the processing of large products.

    • Material saving

The precision laser cutting machine adopts computer programming, which can set and cut products with different shapes to maximize the utilization of material.

    • Shorten the manufacturing cycle for new products

The early development of new products has the characteristics of small quantities and changing structure, failing to define dies. No dies are needed in the processing of the precision laser cutter CNC greatly shortens the manufacturing cycle for new products.

  • How to Make High Precision and High-Quality Metal Cutting with Fiber Laser?

The parameters of the laser beam and the performance, and accuracy of the machine and the CNC system directly affect the cutting efficiency and quality. Cutting accuracy is the priority to assess the quality of the precision laser cutter CNC.

Factors affecting the cutting quality of the precision laser cutting machine include cutting speed, focus position, auxiliary gases, output power, workpiece characteristics, etc. Details are as follows:

    • Output power

The precision laser cutter CNC uses a laser beam with continuous-wave output to generate energy. Therefore, the level and mode of laser power have an impact on the cutting quality of precision laser cutting machines. In practice, a higher power machine is used to cut thick materials. Laser power lower than the maximum allows the focus to gain the highest power to ensure the cutting quality. Modes are not consistent throughout the effective operation time of the laser precision cutter CNC. The condition of the optical parts, the subtle change of mixed gases, and output fluctuations can affect the mode mechanism.

    • Focus position

The relative position of the focus and the surface of the workpiece is particularly important to ensure the cutting quality. In most cases, the focus position is simply on the surface of the workpiece when cutting, or slightly below. A constant position between the focus and the workpiece throughout the cutting process is essential to obtain a consistent cutting quality. Narrower cutting joint and higher efficiency can be achieved with a better focus position. Moreover, better cutting speed leads to better cutting quality. The focus position is usually adjusted to simply below the nozzle whose distance from the workpiece is 1.5mm.

The spot size of the focused laser beam is proportional to the focal length of the lens and the spot size is extremely small after the beam is converged by the lens with a short focal length. The power density is very high at the focus, which is beneficial to cutting quality.

    • Cutting speed

Cutting speed is proportional to the laser power of the precision laser cutting machine, that is, an increase in the power density can raise the cutting speed. Cutting speed is inversely proportional to the density and thickness of the material cut. When other parameters remain unchanged, factors to improve the cutting speed are an increase in the power (within a certain range, such as 500 to 2000W), improvement of the beam mode (such as from high-order mode to low-order mode up to TEM00), reduction of the focused spot size (such as the use of the lens with a short focal length to focus), cutting of materials with low starting evaporation energy (such as plastic, plexiglass, etc.), cutting of low-density materials (such as white pine, etc.) and cutting of thin materials.

    • The pressure of auxiliary gases

The use of an auxiliary gas is required in laser precision cutting and gas pressure is of extreme importance. Auxiliary gases are emitted coaxially with the laser beam to protect the lens from contamination and blow away the slag at the bottom of the cutting zone. For non-metallic and part of metallic materials, compressed air or inert gas is used to melt and evaporate materials, while overburning in the cutting zone can be avoided.

For most laser cutting on metal, active gas (as long as it is O2) is used to generate an oxidation exothermic reaction with hot metal and that additional heat can increase cutting speed by 30% to 50%. Higher gas pressure is required to prevent slag on the cutting joint (hot slag sticking to the workpiece also damage the cutting edge) when cutting thin materials at high speed. Gas pressure should be properly reduced when the material thickness increases or the cutting speed is slow.

Gases with a low pressure are also applied to prevent the plastic cutting edge from frosting.
